Andrea Oncken, DVM, DACVECC, obtained a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University. From there, she completed a small animal rotating internship at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, Colorado and had the opportunity to be a part of the very first season of the television series “Emergency Vets.”

She practiced emergency veterinary medicine in Boulder, Colorado for a year before completing a three-year residency in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and obtained board certification in 2001.

Dr. Oncken’s specialties include emergency surgery, trauma care, ventilator medicine, toxicities, and treatment of acute organ failure.

In addition to her specialty work, she lectures at veterinary conferences on emergency and critical care topics throughout the United States. She annually teaches the emergency and critical care course at Oregon State University Veterinary School.

Dr. Oncken spent eight years (6 of which she acted as the medical director) at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon. In September 2009, Dr. Oncken joined the WestVet team.

She enjoys camping, hiking, running, live music, and skiing.
