WESTVET’S VETERINARY EXTERNSHIPS

WestVet 24-hour Animal Emergency and Specialty Center offers clinical externship opportunities to third or fourth-year veterinary students.

We believe an essential part of veterinary education comes with real world experiences. Our externship enables current veterinary students to gain experience in a busy multi-disciplinary specialty and emergency hospital. Students are able to explore a variety of specialties or focus on a specific area of interest.

Externships typically span 2 and 6 weeks. Placement is available on a first come, first served basis.

If your veterinary school requires or allows an externship for credit, WestVet is willing and able to accommodate most programs; our externship is currently accepted at several veterinary colleges. Students will be assigned a mentor or supervisor; an evaluation will be provided to your college if required.

Although most of the experience gained is observational, there is a limitless amount of information to be acquired by exposure to our heavy caseload. Hands-on experience will be dependent on a students’ prior experience and comfort level with treatments and procedures. Externs are encouraged to attend case rounds, intern rounds, and continuing education lectures with our WestVet team.

For more information or to schedule an externship, you may email or call Dr. Katy Campbell West, 208.375.1600.
