Meaghan Pryde

DVM, Emergency Veterinarian

Meaghan Pryde, DVM, joined the WestVet Emergency team in spring of 2017. She may look familiar to clients and our colleagues at area family clinics because she recently completed a one-year internship with us (2015-2016). When the opportunity arose to invite her on staff full-time – we took it – and quickly. This talented emergency veterinarian served our patients with warmth, diligence, and professionalism and she is a good fit on our busy ER team.

Dr. Pryde grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL, a suburb of Chicago, where she rode horses and assisted the barn veterinarian with treatments. In high school, she enrolled in a program through the University of Illinois that taught students about veterinary medicine and basic clinical skills. She was hooked.

After earning her BS in Animal Science from Iowa State University, she completed her DVM at the University of Illinois. During school much of Dr. Pryde’s research focused on veterinary ophthalmology. She worked with an ophthalmologist in Chicago during the summer, participated in research projects with interns or residents during the school year, and completed a summer internship in Zurich at the University Veterinary Hospital working in the ophthalmology department.

Then she spent a year working at WestVet in our 24/7 emergency clinic. The fast-paced environment combined with the collaborative approach to care was a good fit. She not only finds great satisfaction when stabilizing a sick or injured animal, but in getting to know the pet’s personality and working with the clients.

Returning to WestVet was an easy choice because of the caliber of her colleagues. “I was excited to come back to WestVet because the doctors and staff are amazing to work with. The care for patients is exceptional. Everyone is working on being the best and staying current on medicine and procedures,” she told us.

It also didn’t hurt that Boise offers so many outdoor recreational activities. Dr. Pryde remembers during her time at WestVet many opportunities to get away to mountain bike, run or snowboard (and sometimes all in one day).

Her two dogs, Payton, a six-year-old Australian shepherd, and Jay, a six-year-old small mixed breed, have been part of her family since veterinary school.

For fun she loves to travel, hike, backpack, camp, and road and mountain bike. And, every once in a while, she might spend a whole day at a coffee shop reading a good book.

We are delighted to offer her services to our WestVet clients.
