WestVet’s Veterinary Externships

WestVet Animal Emergency and Specialty Center is pleased to offer clinical externship opportunities to third or fourth year veterinary students. We believe that an essential part of an education is gaining real world experience. Our externship enables current veterinary students an opportunity to gain experience in a busy multi-disciplinary veterinary hospital. Additionally, students will network with peers and colleagues, and explore future career options.

Externships run typically between 2 and 6 weeks, placement is available on a first come, first served basis. If your veterinary school requires or allows an externship for credit, WestVet is willing and able to accommodate most programs. Our externship program is currently accepted at several veterinary colleges. Students will be assigned a mentor or supervisor and an evaluation will be provided to your college if required. Students will have the opportunity to spend time in any of our departments, depending on your interests.

Although most of the experience gained is observational, there is a limitless amount of information to be acquired by exposure to our broad caseload. Hands-on experience will be dependent on the students’ prior experience and comfort level with treatments and procedures. Externs are encouraged to attend case rounds, intern rounds, and continuing education lectures.

If you have questions about our program or are interested in scheduling an externship you may contact Dr. Kara Lindberg via email HERE or call 208.375.1600.
