WestVet is proud to offer full time on site cardiology services with Dr. Ryan Baumwart.

Dr. Baumwart received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Northwest Oklahoma State University.  He then obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University. Following his graduation, Dr. Baumwart completed a one-year internship at the Ohio State University in small animal medicine and surgery.  Dr. Baumwart continued his training at the Ohio State University, completing a four year residency in cardiovascular medicine, emphasing interventional surgical procedures.  

Dr. Baumwart has authored several publications on topics including Boxer cardiomyopathy, Greyhounds, and biomarker (troponin and BNP) evaluation of cardiovascular disease.  In 2007 Dr. Baumwart passed his board examination to become a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. 

Dr. Baumwart lives in Northwest Boise with his dog and cat, Mac and Echo. He enjoys the many outdoor activities that Idaho has to offer including hiking, camping, snowboarding, and mountain biking.

Veterinary cardiology encompasses diseases in dogs and cats such as:

  • Degenerative valve disease (endocardiosis)
  • Cardiomyopathy (dilated, hypertrophic, restrictive, and unclassified)
  • Congenital heart disease including:
    • Patent ductus arteriosis, Ventricular septal defects, Aortic stensois, Pulmonic stensois, Mitral and Tricuspid valve malformation and Atrial septal defects
